Day One-Surgery
Day one, surgery day. Dad was scheduled to go in at 10:45 am, but that got pushed back to about 12:30 pm. They said it would be about a five hour surgery, give or take, but it ended up being a little over 11 hours. The doctor said he used every bit of knowledge he had working on dads back. The discs were extreamly degenerated and he had been leaking spinal fluid from his spine that they also had to repair. He had a hard time coming out of the anesthesia and Teresa and Nina had a very long day into the morning.
Kirsten and me at about 10:00 pm. We had to leave about 11.
Teresa was with dad the whole day and ended up staying through the night with him. Bless her heart.
Nina was a trooper and stayed and worried the whole time. Keeping her hands busy of course by doing some sewing.
Day two about 11am. He was improving by the hour. Still a little confused about what has happened, but was in good spirits.
Yea, a smile. He was positive that they had told him they could go home tomorrow, but it will probably be at least Saturday and then there will be lots of rehab involved.
Because he had a spinal fluid leak, he has to stay flat on his back until Wednesday afternoon. That is the hardest part for him. He gets pretty uncomfortable easily. But he had a haram of women to be at his beck and call and take care of what ever he needed.
Here are the sisters keeping everyone up to date through texts. What would we do without our cell phones?
Kirsten pretending to be Teresa in her bifocals.
He is in a shared room so it was kind of hard for him to get any rest, but we are so grateful that he is doing well.
I took a picture of his feet so he could see how good they look. His right foot is normally purple and swollen. He has compression wraps on his legs to keep his circulation going and his skin and feet looked great.
Joel called a min ago 8 pm and said he was doing good. He was a little agitated and they had to change his pain pump for the second time, so hopefully he will get some more relief. Jeanette and Melissa and Karmelle and Nina were still up there. He needs a good nights sleep. I will be up there at 8am so I will keep everyone posted. Keep him in your prayers. Love Val
